Ecstatic!!

What a miracle!  Thank goodness, it looks like a linear fracture!  We will have official results on Monday or Tuesday, but for now....we are taking the preliminary results which were.....NO SIGN OF CANCER!!!
Poor Blake had a rough day on Friday.  We spent the night at Aunt Kathy's and neither Blake nor I slept much the night before the surgery.  Originally the surgery was scheduled for 12:00 Friday.  On Thursday they called and moved the surgery back to 10:50.  We had to be at Scottish Rite at 8:50.  Blake was no nervous that morning and when Aunt Cheryl came to pick us up, he said that his stomach dropped.  Blake and Daddy waited patiently for Aunt Cheryl:

Scottish Rite was very organized....as soon as we got there and filled out all of the paperwork, we were put in a room.

Blake kept his mind off of things by doing Word Search puzzles that Grandmomma gave him.  He loves those!  He felt much better when the nurse told him that there would be no shots (while he was awake) and no needles.  Time went by quickly as our room quickly became a revolving door.  We met the nurse, nurse practitioner, OR nurse, recovery room nurse, Dr. Fabregas, Dr. Fabregas' PA, nurse anethesist and anesthesiologist.  All of these people introduced themselves and made us feel at ease.  Aunt Cheryl's friend, Tony, who I felt like I already knew, came to check on Blake several times.  He even brought Blake a game (which he has spent many hours playing) and some snacks for after surgery.

Blake was given Versed and Lortab.  They kept telling us to watch him because he would get very "loopy."  Unfortunately, that never happened.  Blake played Aunt Cheryl's ITouch up until it was time to go into surgery.  She had downloaded some really cool games for him.  He is a hard patient to keep down!

By the time they were ready to take Blake to surgery, he was too drugged to care.  The surgery lasted about an hour and Dr. Fab delivered the great news!  Blake was still in recovery so we could not see him, but Aunt Cheryl could!  She put on her badge and went to check on him.  Not too long after that, they brought him back. He was in excrutiating pain.  It was heartwrenching to watch.

The nurse was so good about trying to get his pain under control.  He had Lortab, Versed, Morphine and 3 doses of Phentanyl before he could get comfortable enough to relax.  Once he went to sleep he slept so hard for about 2 hours.

When he woke up, he felt great...until he started moving around.  Poor thing, he threw up so much.  The anesthesia didn't agree with him and everytime he moved, the motion made him worse.  He finally gave up and put the rag over his face!

After some Zofran, he began to feel better and was able to go to the bathroom and try out his new crutches!

We were released around 5:30.  Blake still felt sick and the first hour of the ride home was rough.  He felt so bad.  It was so good to finally get home about 10:00.  Blake had perked up by then.  He slept good and was up and moving Saturday morning.  He had a lot of visitors.  Noah came by to play with him and practiced pushing his wheelchair.  They have decided that Noah will be the one to push his wheelchair at school.  Now THAT is scary!!!!  He did a pretty good job at the house!

Today (Sunday), Blake has done very well.  He has only had Motrin and no pain meds.  He is walking mostly on his own without his crutches.  He amazes me and is such a trooper.  We will see how school goes tomorrow.  Hopefully tomorrow we will hear the final pathology report, but until then, we are thanking God for this miracle and are so greatful to everyone who has prayed for Blake.  Thank you so much!

Optimistic

Yesterday, we drove to Atlanta to meet with Dr. Jorge Fabregas, aka "Dr. Fab."  He immediately did an xray and it showed very clearly a protrusion on the bone of the tibia.  He immediately ruled out a stress fracture and shin splints.  We were quickly at ease with the staff at Children's Orthopaedics of Atlanta.  Aunt Cheryl went with us.  Dr. Fabregas was very methodical with what he wanted to do.  He ordered many blood tests to see if any infection was present and also ordered an MRI with and without contrast.  We came home late last night without any answers but feeling much more confident with the doctor and staff in Atlanta.

Dr. Fab called today.  Blake's bloodwork was perfect and there was no sign of infection.  The radiologist thinks that there could possibly be a linear fracture.  Their recomendation was to completely immobilize the leg and do another MRI in 6 weeks.  Dr. Fab has reservations about that because there is no evidence of a fall or severe trauma to the leg.  Dr. Fab wants to be on the safe side and do a bone biopsy Friday morning at Scottish Rite.  While Blake is asleep, he will personally walk the sample to pathology for a preliminary report.  After that is complete, he will cast his leg and immobilize it.  This will be a day surgery procedure.  We should have some idea of what is going on Friday afternoon so that makes me feel better.  We will go up to Atlanta after school tomorrow and stay at Aunt Kathy or Cheryl's house.  Right now, our plan is to come on back after the surgery since Blake will still be under anesthesia and have some high powered drugs in him.  Hopefully, he will sleep all the way home and will be able to rest once we get here.  Of course, we will be prepared to stay in Atlanta if we need to.  I will update after the surgery.

We needed this laugh today!

Tomorrow morning we head to Atlanta to meet with Dr. Jorge Farbegas, the orthopedic oncologist to find out his opinion on Blake's leg.  We are hoping for the best and I have never prayed so hard for a stress fracture or a broken leg in all my life.

Tonight, Bryson wanted to say the blessing at dinner.  She decided to stray from the usual "God is great...." blessing.  Here is the blessing that Bryson said tonight, "Thank you Lord for this day and for this food.  Please help my brother to get better and for his leg to be better.  And help Grandaddy with his memories and Grandmomma with her foot and Happy Birthday George Washington.  Amen."

I LOVE IT!!!

It's Her Birthday!!

Our favorite daughter in the whole world turned 6 today.  She has been anxiously awaiting today for about a month now and if you ran into her over the past few weeks, I am sure you know that she was going to turn 6 and get her ears pierced.  Our day started out with a Pinkalicious Pottery Party at Making Memories.  One of Bryson's favorite stories is Pinkalicious.  Our neighbor, Karen Bradley of http://www.cakebelieve.net/  made her cake.  We had no idea what it would look like.  I just gave Karen the name of the book and told her to "do her thing."  We could not have been more pleased!!!
At school each year, we have Children's Book Week.  One of my best friends and coworkers made me and Bryson Pinkalicious shirts 2 years ago for the Book Parade.  What a perfect time to wear the shirts again!

Many of Bryson's friends came to the party and each one picked out a piece to decorate.  They will fire them and deliver them to us and Bryson will pass out the finished product to her friends!

Uncle Carey and Kim decided to let Brett decorate a tile.

But he ate the paintbrush instead!

Kim decided to paint his hand for a handprint.  Brett thought that was funny!

The boys had to take a break!
Next, it was time to sing "Happy Birthday" and eat cake and ice cream!

Brett wanted to blow out a candle too so Uncle Carey and Kim lit one for him too!

The cake was sooooo good!

Bryson got so many nice presents for her birthday!!  Thank you to everyone that was there!

Brett was worn out and had a good time too.  His friend Cole came to the party!

Now, for the BIG event of the day.....the ear piercing!!!  Bryson invited her whole party to go with us to Merle Norman to get her ears pierced.  She was nervous, but excited!!  Grandmomma and Grandaddy, Anna, Sarah, Ella, and Emma went with us.  Bryson held on to her ladybug pillow pal that Blake gave her.

First, they cleaned her ears....

Then they marked them.....

Here it goes.....She just about bit the nose off the ladybug!

She did it!!!!  So brave...not even a tear!  Isn't she beautiful???!!!  Grandmomma and Grandaddy bought the earrings to pierce her ears and Grandmomma Jeanne and Papa bought her first set of pearl earrings.  I don't even have a set of real pearl earrings!!!

And the friends that watched her.....

Happy Birthday Bryson!  We love you and are so proud of you!!!
